Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a businessman which is said to have been sponsored by the deceased's father to a tune of Ksh160,000

According to a statement from the DCI, the five were arraigned at the Nyeri Law Courts on Tuesday, February 24.

The police say that the victim, 32-year-old Daniel Mwangi Wang'ondu was killed on New Years at the behest of his father.

Central Regional Criminal Investigations Officer, guiding a team of DCI officers, arrested the victim’s father’s driver at Githurai following vital clues drawn from the crime scene and forensic-led intelligence.

Upon interrogation, he led officers to Embu at Matakani area where two other suspects were also nabbed.

With further investigations, detectives established that the three long-time friends had been hired by the Mwangi's father following a family feud. 

Police are currently holding the victim's father, his driver two other suspects and a lady.

The deceased had separated from his wife whom his friends say was being housed by her father-in-law.

Sources close to the family told Kenyans.co.ke that the victim’s father is a known wealthy businessman who owns several petrol stations in Nyeri. 

The police statement also alleged that the driver had been given Ksh 20,000 to facilitate the murder. 

The businessman’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on January 1 outside his home in Mweiga town. 

Nothing was stolen from him or his house, not even his Volkswagen Golf car, beside which he lay lifeless.
