Monday, August 16: The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has recommended that the six officers implicated in the death of the Kianjokoma brothers be charged with murder.
According to a statement released on Monday, August 16, the Authority advocated for the officers to be relieved off their duties, to surrender all firearms and any other government stores in their possession within the shortest time possible, and also to be available in order to aid IPOA with investigations when called upon.
Besides murder, IPOA is pursuing other charges against the officers such as negligence in the performance of duty while handling the two brothers.

Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai on Monday, August 16, issued an update on the Kianjokoma brothers case where two brothers, Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura, died mysteriously after been apprehended by police officers.
Speaking on the #EngagetheIG Forum, Mutyambai stated that the six officers implicated in the death of the two brothers had been suspended with immediate effect in order to pave way for prosecution.
Further, he affirmed that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had concluded investigations and forwarded the file to the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
He assured Kenyans that the matter would be solved and that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
"I assure you that justice for the Kianjokoma brothers will be served, but this can only be done if we allow the proper due process to take place with concrete evidence that can stand a trial in the court of justice," he stated.
IG Mutyambai alongside Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Attorney General Kihara Kariuki had recently visited the family of the Kianjokoma brothers and assured them that justice would be served.
"I was briefed on the case and I am looking into the report. I do not want to say what we shall do not to preempt but we shall follow the law.
"I promised the father we will do all we can to get justice and follow the direction the report will point us to," Matiang'i stated.
The case pitting the two brothers' demise has been a subject of discussions among many who questioned how the two died at the hands of police officers. Both Njiru and Mutura had been arrested for flouting curfew hours.
The police, in their defense, stated that the two could have jumped off a police vehicle at the time- claims which were disputed by the family of the Kianjokoma brothers.
"We believe the truth will come out soon. As a family, we are crying to the government to do investigations and bring the culprits to book so that our late children can get justice," the uncle to the brothers, Felix Nthiga stated.
