A cloud of mystery surrounded a bus station in Mombasa County after a 39-year-old woman was found dead inside a bus she had travelled in.

According to a report by the Standard, the deceased, Salma Yusuf, was heading to Mombasa from Uasin GIshu County and was discovered after the bus made its final stop.

According to some passengers, she had complained of constant headaches. Nobody paid much attention to her, assuming the headache would subside after some time.

Another passenger, who engaged in a conversation with her during her final moments, intimated that the deceased was set to fly to Qatar this weekend.

"During our conversation, she revealed that she worked as a supermarket attendant in Qatar, and had recently gone to Eldoret to meet her brother before she could fly out of the country this weekend," the passenger stated.

Yusuf's relative, Neema Rajab noted that the kin's body was taken to the Coast Provincial General Hospital morgue.

"Her burial will take place on Friday, August 27, at the Kikowani Muslim cemetery in Mombasa according to Islamic customs," she stated.

"We had waited for her arrival for long, before receiving a phone call from the bus attendants, informing us that Salma died during the journey."

The incident is almost similar to a recent one in which another passenger also died inside a bus near Kibwezi town in Makueni along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

According to Kibwezi sub-county police boss Ben Chagulo, the deceased was unresponsive to calls by other passengers, urging him to close his window.

"The journey was all well from Mombasa towards Nairobi, but when we approached Manyanga market near Kibwezi some passengers from the back seat became impatient of the deceased who had opened his windows for long," the police boss stated.

"One of them moved to his seat to check why he was not responding to their request to have the window closed, only to realize the passenger was unresponsive."
