An ongoing supremacy battle between Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru and Woman Representative, Purity Ngirici, has been eased.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Tuesday, October 12, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Karanja Kibicho, stated that Waiguru and Ngirici had reached an agreement on the use of billboards.

While addressing the media, the PS, who doubles as the chairman of the National Celebrations Committee, declared that only two billboards would be erected ahead of the October 20, Mashujaa Day celebrations.

"Mainly, there will be a billboard welcoming the president to Kirinyaga: the billboard of the president himself, and there will be a billboard of the governor welcoming the people to Kirinyaga," Kibicho stated.

He explained that the disagreement was due to a contractual misunderstanding, which had been resolved after the two conflicting parties negotiated. Kibicho further stated that the two billboards would be up by October 13.

The PS also gave an update on the progress of the preparation, confirming that a good number of residents in the county have received the vaccine ahead of the celebrations.

"Those are the two types of billboards that we will have for the next seven days, so we will have them up by 6 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday)," he reiterated.

The celebrations will be held on October 20 at the Wanguru Stadium in Kirinyaga County, with the government having banned parallel ceremonies across the country.

On October 10, supporters of  Ngirici clashed with county government officials in Mwea town. The standoff ensued when the officials attempted to pull down two billboards bearing Ngirici's image.

Residents accused the officials of attempting to replace the billboards with others containing the governor's image.

Through the intervention of Andrew Ngirici, husband to the Women Representative, the billboards were re-erected. He accused the county boss of trying to provoke him into chaos ahead of the national celebrations.

Waiguru and Ngirici have been at loggerheads, after the MP declared his interest in vying for governorship in 2022 elections.
