Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, may not on the ballot on August 9 after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) threatened to lock him out on a technicality.
According to the IEBC, Kalonzo did not present the list of his supporters in the recommended format.
Reports indicated that rather than Kalonzo using the Microsoft Excel to present the names, he used a word document.
The Wiper leader is said to be among the four political party candidates and nine independents who failed to meet the IEBC’s rigorous demand of 2,000 supporters from at least 24 counties.
Notably, the IEBC has shortlisted, 8 candidates who are eyeing the presidency on political parties' tickets and another 8 seeking the top seat as independent candidates.
Those vying for the presidency on political parties tickets include Murang'a governor Mwangi Wa Iria (Usawa Kwa Wote Party), George Wajackoya (Roots Party), Ekuru Aukot (Thirdway Alliance), Jimi Wanjigi (Safina Party) Njeru Kathangu (Ford Asili) and David Mwaura Wahiga (Agano Party).
Independent candidates include Gibson Ngaruiya Ng'ang'a, Dorothy Kemunto Nyangori, Peter Mubiko King'ori, Jeremiah Nyaga, Jane Juliet Munyoki, Faith Wairimu Ngigi, Eliud Muthiora Kariara and George Munyotta Kamau.
The electoral agency has designated May 29 to June 6 as days when presidential candidates will present their nominations papers, be vetted and also be cleared or blocked from vying.
Meanwhile, Wiper Party remained coy on reports stating that its leader, Kalonzo will announce his return to Azimio La Umoja on Monday, May 30.
Sources who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that Kalonzo will make the announcement at a grand rally in Kilgoris, Narok County before proceeding to Suswa on Tuesday, May 31.
Kalonzo will, thereafter, venture into a five-day Ukambani campaign tour for Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate, Raila Odinga.
On Monday, May 23, Wiper aspirants voted in favour of Kalonzo’s return in a lengthy meeting in Machakos county.
