Patrick Muyaya, the Democratic Republic of Congo's government spokesman,  has warned Rwanda over disrupting President Uhuru Kenyatta's mission to end the war in the eastern part of the country.

According to a statement released on Friday, May 27, Muyaya blamed Rwanda for supporting a rebel group, M23, carrying out a military offensive in Congo.

Muyaya further threatened to exclude Rwanda from the negotiations being led by Uhuru in Nairobi.

"A warning was made to the Rwandans, whose attitude is likely to disrupt the peace process that is nearing its end with the discussions in Nairobi, where all the armed groups, except for the M23, are committed to the path to peace," Muyaya stated.

On April 21, East African leaders tasked Uhuru with mediating between the DRC government and the local armed forces that have occupied the country.

Uhuru further resolved to host the first consultative meeting between the two groups in Nairobi.

"It was agreed that a secretariat be formed to oversee the implementation of the agreements arrived at the meeting. The Secretariat will be administered by the Special Envoy in the Office of the President of the DRC, and the Special Envoy in the Office of the President of Kenya.

"The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya is designated to play this role in an interim with the participation of representatives from the Executive Offices of the other Heads of State of the East African Community," read the statement in part.

Uhuru was endorsed for the mission by President Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), President ÉVariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), and President Felix Tshisekedi (DRC).

Rwanda's President Paul Kagame missed the meeting but was represented by his Minister of Foreign Affairs Vincent Biruta.

The diplomatic row between the two nations escalated forcing Congo to summon Rwanda's ambassador and further suspending Rwanda Air flights to Congo.
