Imagine walking for 346km from Uasin Gishu to Nairobi? Obviously, the journey is not for the faint-hearted.

However, two business women, Evelyn Chepkemei, a resident of Sugoi, her friend Eunice Tabut decided to trek to Nairobi with a cart despite other available means of transport to use to attend the inauguration of President-elect William Ruto.

“I decided to use the Cart because I'm a hustler,” Evelyn stated

The woman  decided to cover the hundreds of kilometers with the intention of seeing the President-elect William Ruto with their naked eyes and witness the inauguration ceremony at Kasarani Stadium slated for Tuesday, September 13.

Uasin Gishu County is the home of champions, having produced stellar gold medalists and dominating the global map. That could not be further from the truth. The two women trekked all the way to Nairobi as a way of demonstrating their support for the ‘Bottom Up’ economic policy - upon which Ruto's agenda is anchored.

Evelyen Chepkemei a mother of three and Eunice Tabut from Eldoret could not stand a chance to miss the historic day for their “son” as he takes the oath of office as Kenya’s fifth President.

Initially she was alone on the journey to Nairobi but she says she linked up with Eunice who had gone to Eldoret for her business.

“When she was going back home she saw me and alerted the driver so that he can alight to give Evelyn the company,” Chepkemei stated.

Chepkemei says the journey to Nairobi started on Friday at 4 am in the morning following blessings from her husband and children.

“I told my husband i will go with my cart to Kasarani so that Ruto witnesses that i love him, and know why i decided to come with the cart,” Chepkemei stated

She further said that he decided to use the cart because she believes in William Ruto’s bottom up economic model which he championed during campaigns.

The women say that they have hope they will attend Ruto’s inauguration despite facing challenges on their way to Nairobi. Chepkemi revealed the horrid challenges they faced while on their way to Nairobi. She says that during the cold nights they slept beside the cart after experiencing hot sun during the day.

“We used to sleep beside my cart during the night, during the day the sun is hot, sometimes lorries squeeze me,” Evelyn stated

On the other hand, Eunice says during the heavy rains, they had to shelter below the cart.

“When it rained, we went below the cart, water passed inside, but we had hope that we will reach Kasarani despite all the challenges,” Eunice stated.

President-elect William Ruto is expected to implement his bottom up economic model that  resonates with youths and small scale businesses.
