The Nation Media Group (NMG) is mulling declaring redundancies if the latest notice from its Chief Executive Officer Stephen Gitagama to the staff is anything to go by.

The media house, which runs the Daily Nation Newspaper, Business Daily, NTV, Nation FM and a slate of online publications, is in the process of accelerating business transformation agenda to assure of its success in the long term and the sustainability of journalism.

Gitagama, in the notice dated Wednesday, November 30, and seen by Kenyans.co.ke, noted that the company was reorganising its staff to realise the agenda.

"I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each one of you for the role you continue to play in our transformation journey with diligence, commitment and passion.

"We will continue to refocus on priority areas to deliver on the transformation while adequately resourcing and placing staff into areas where their skills are best utilised," stated the CEO.

He further explained that the reorganisation was informed by the current business environment characterised a struggling economy.

Gitagama, however, assured that the process of reorganising the workforce 'will be carried out with utmost dignity and in accordance with the Labour Laws of Kenya.'

"We will strive to provide all the necessary support to help those affected manage the transition. While these changes maybe unsettling, I am confident that we are collectively moving in the right direction.

"I therefore call upon each one of us to embrace the changes and champion our mission as we build the NMG of the future," he added.

The announcement came days after Joe Ageyo, who was recently promoted to become NMG Editorial Director, announced more changes to the company's newsroom leadership.

He re-appointed Pamela Sittoni to become Executive Editor of Daily Nation and transferred Bernard Mwinzi from Managing Editor of Daily Nation to Value-Added Content section.

Before her promotion, Sittoni was the Executive Editor, Partnerships and had worked with several media organisations as well as international firms.

In October, both the Standard Media Group and BBC unveiled plans to retrench their staff en-masse citing difficult operating environment.
