President William Ruto will fly out to South Korea on the night of Sunday, May 2, for an official visit.
Speaking at a church service in Bungoma County on Sunday, the President stated that he was making numerous travels abroad to secure better opportunities for the country.
"After here, I will be flying out tonight to South Korea. I am not going for fun or as a tourist. I am going to work," he told Bungoma residents.
President Ruto is expected to be attending the Korea-Africa Summit together with 48 other heads of state and government.
Additionally, the President announced that he was seeking to sign bilateral agreements as well as receive funding for key projects following an earlier State Visit in 2022 at the invite of President Yoon Suk Yeol.
"I was there and agreed with the President that we want to have a collaboration of our university in Athi River and one in South Korea and they have given us Ksh40 billion for young people in the creative economy. I will be going to receive those funds," he stated.
President Ruto remarked that projects were part of a grand scheme to empower Kenyan youth who want to venture into the creative industry.
"You saw I visited one of the largest creative economy people in America and now we want to have ours here," he explained how the Ksh40 billion would be used.
The Head of State further revealed that South Korea had identified that huge parts of Kenya were dry lands and to that end, Yeol's government would provide Kenya with irrigation equipment worth millions of shillings.
Lastly, President Ruto promised Kenyan youth that he would secure for them job opportunities during his trip to the Asian country.
"When we met with the South Korean president, we initiated plans to export our youth and now we are going to sign an agreement to that effect," he revealed.
Ruto remarked that the agreement would see between 5,000 and 10,000 Kenyan youth travel to South Korea in a human capital export deal.
