The United States government has called on President William Ruto's government to exercise restraint during the ongoing anti-Finance Bill protests.
In a press briefing, Matthew Miller, the State Department spokesman noted that the US was calling on the government to create room for dialogue.
The US also condemned the violence and the loss of lives that was witnessed after some of the protesters breached Parliament.
"We condemn the violence reported during protests in Nairobi and around Kenya. We mourn the loss of life and injury sustained and offer our condolences to the families who lost loved ones.
"We urge restraint to restore order and provide space for dialogue," he stated.
According to the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), as of 2:51 pm on Tuesday, police had shot over four people at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday.
More people are reported to be nursing gunshot wounds in various hospitals across the city.
"Police have shot four protesters, as witnessed by KHRC, killing one. We strongly condemn the police killing. Such actions are unacceptable and constitute a grave violation of human rights.
"Justice and accountability are imperative. We will vigorously push for police accountability," KHRC stated.
Meanwhile, while addressing the nation on Tuesday evening, President William Ruto described the Tuesday events as treasonous.
He opined that the criminal elements had taken advantage of the peaceful protests to cause chaos, adding that the government would be going after the organisers and planners of the violence.
"I have directed all organs of our national security to deploy measures to thwart any attempts by dangerous criminals to undermine the security and stability of our country. As the people of Kenya go to bed tonight, I give you my assurance that the safety of your families and properties remains my utmost priority,” Ruto stated.
