Police in London have launched investigations into the killing of a Kenyan woman whose lifeless body was discovered in her apartment.
The woman, identified as Marianne Kilonzi, was found dead in her apartment with a gushing head injury.
According to the Metropolitan Police Service, they received reports that the victim was missing from her place of work, which was unlike her.
On Friday, January 17, 2025, the police discovered her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood in her South London apartment.
Based on the injuries on her body, police strongly believed that the assailant was known to the victim and a probe is underway to determine the identity of Kilonzi's attacker.
Notably, Kilonzi, 43, was on a career ascendancy at the time of her death as she was working as vice president of trade and working capital sales at a reputable bank. She worked with the bank for more than 18 years.
Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren sympathised with Kilonzi's family, saying authorities were trying to find "a named individual".
"We believe the suspect was known to Marianne and there is no wider risk to the public," she said, adding "This is a tragic crime and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne's loved ones and colleagues."
A spokesperson form Kilonzi's place of work also issued a statement on behalf of the company, saying: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
Incidents of Kenyans losing their lives abroad from foul play have been on the rise, with Kilonzi's case coming barely weeks after a 32-year-old Kenyan man was arrested in the United States after the remains of a Kenyan woman were found inside his vehicle.
Tracy Nyariki, 31, a resident of Newark, Delaware, went missing before Christmas and her body was found in a car belonging to the key suspect in the case on Friday, December 20.
Like Kilonzi, Nyariki's workplace also informed authorities to check on her welfare, leading to the discovery of her body.
The deceased's family strongly believes the main suspect in the case, Nobert Matara, killed and dismembered her body out of jealousy.
