The Public Service Commission (PSC) has cautioned all Kenyans looking to utilise any of their services including browsing job opportunities and shortlisted lists.
In a statement on Sunday, February 23, PSC warned the public of fraudulent individuals posing as officials from the commission and extorting money from unwitting Kenyans.
"Caution: Beware of fraudsters posing as PSC staff and soliciting money in exchange for our services. PSC Does not charge to offer service i.e. shortlisting, job opportunities, promotions or appeals," part of the statement.
"The commission provides services free of charge."
To further stop any such discrepancies in the future, PSC urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the commission through their official channel.
"Report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities or to the commission immediately. To verify any information Contact PSC via Call Centre: 020 486 5000. Email: pro@publicservice.go.ke," the statement concluded.
The Public Service of Kenya is an independent government commission established under Article 233(1) of the Constitution of Kenya to manage human resources in the Kenya Civil Service and the Local Authorities.
This means that PSC carries the mandate of shortlisting and hiring applicants for job opportunities in several government corporations, making it a stellar target for fraudulent individuals seeking to extort Kenyans.
Besides hiring for permanent and pensionable jobs, the commission regularly issues year-long internship opportunities to Kenyans fresh out of university.
In November 2024, they announced the shortlisting of a whopping 6,673 candidates for the internship programmes and revealed the dates when interviews would be taking place.
This came just a month after the advertisement for the recruitment of internship candidates for the 2024/2025 financial year.
The 12-month programmes are often non-renewable and cut across various government ministries, departments, and agencies and target recent graduates who hold Bachelor’s degrees from recognised universities.
