An autopsy on the body of a British philanthropist killed by President William Ruto’s motorcade on Thursday has revealed he may have been run over multiple times.
According to the autopsy, the Briton, who was identified as 79-year-old British national Edgar Charles Frederick, died from multiple injuries and fractures.
“He suffered multiple traumas. He had severe injuries to the chest and head,” said Daniel Zuriel, a pathologist.
Zuriel further revealed that Edgar’s head and chest were completely crushed. Most of the injuries were on his left side, according to the pathologist.
According to the pathologist, Edgar may have been run over more than once, leading to severe injuries that resulted in his death. Their findings indicate he was hit and then tun over by following cars.
“Particular injuries you are showing that his ribs on the left are crushed, the hip and the head. It is possible he was run over on the left side completely,” the pathologist added.
Details emerged on Friday, indicating that Edgar, at the time of his death, had travelled to the country to visit his sister and nephew, who reside in Kenya.
The accident took place near Adams Arcade along Ngong Road as President Ruto's convoy was en route to a public engagement in Kibra.
Witnesses reported that Edgar was attempting to cross the road, possibly heading to a nearby mosque for prayers, when he was struck by a vehicle from the motorcade.
Some accounts suggest that he may have had a hearing impairment, which could have contributed to the accident.
Following the incident, the driver of the government vehicle involved, attached to the Nairobi Regional Coordinator's office, was arrested and later released on cash bail pending further investigation.
Police Spokesperson Michael Muchiri disclosed that the deceased’s family had been informed of their kin’s death.
The British High Commission in Nairobi has been informed and is liaising with local authorities regarding the incident.
Edgar’s body is expected to be flown out of the country to the United Kingdom for burial.
