Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed her life is in danger, moments after honouring a summon by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

On Monday, April 7, the lawmaker spoke to the media moments after her summon, where she made explosive allegations against the government, including claiming there were 'mercenaries' deployed to intimidate her.

"There are mercenaries hired by politicians to intimidate, kill, and abduct. I want to announce here that my life is in danger. Anything happening to me, we know who is behind it," the MP said.

Wamuchomba, a fierce critic of President William Ruto's administration, further alleged that she received summons from suspicious contacts, and upon inquiry with County Commander of Police Kiambu County Doris Mugambi, she was told it was not the work of the police.

The lawmaker also accused her predecessor of being behind a plot to frustrate her, as she alleged several office visits that were intended to intimidate her staff.

In addition, Wamuchomba claimed her security detail had been withdrawn. "The government does not respect women. If they did, they would have given me 10 bodyguards," she lamented.

"I only had one bodyguard, whom they withdrew the same way they withdrew Gachagua's bodyguard. Then, when something happens to me, they will say it is political warfare. I want to state here that my life is in danger."

Wamuchomba now wants the government not only to reinstate her security detail but also to deploy four bodyguards instead of the one she previously had.

According to the MP, the phone call summoning her was a strategic one from her political adversaries, who allegedly wanted to block her from visiting the Githunguri Stadium ahead of the president's development tour in the region.

During Ruto's visit, the president inspected several projects, including the ongoing construction of the Mau Mau Roads at Nyanduma in Lari, Kiambu, and the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park.

Wamuchomba proceeded to fault Ruto for staying silent amid a spate of goon attacks, particularly on leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

She specifically pointed out the latest incident at a PCEA church in Kasarani, which saw goons attempt to infiltrate premises where Gachagua was worshipping.

On Sunday, security officers linked to the former DP acted after the youth stormed the church, allegedly demanding cash payments for them to attend the event.
