The County Government of Bomet and the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) are mourning the death of Erick Chepkwony, who served as the county's Chief Officer for Finance, ICT, and Economic Planning, and KTDA's National Vice Chair.

Taking to an official statement, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok confirmed  Chepkwony's death, describing it as a shock to the county, as the official appeared well and strong just the previous day.

According to Barchock, Chepkwony was joyful, strong, and full of strength before the shocking news of his demise.

''My heart goes out to his family, the people of Bomet, and the KTDA fraternity, where he served as National Vice Chair. This devastating loss feels even more profound as we remember how full of life he was just yesterday," the statement read in part.

The governor also extended his prayers to the family and assured them that the county government would support them in these tough times.

''We stand with his family during this unimaginably difficult time and pledge our steadfast support,'' the statement continued.

The cause of his death is yet to be established; however, reports claim that he collapsed and passed on Wednesday evening in Nairobi.

Chepkwony was highly respected for his contributions to financial management and economic planning in Bomet County. He previously held roles in Cooperatives and Public Works before moving to the Finance department in September 2023.

He also played a significant role in Kenya’s tea industry at the national level. He was elected as the vice chairperson for KTDA in August 2024, representing Zone 9.

His leadership focused on improving tea farmers' earnings and expanding market opportunities for Kenyan tea.

Chepkwony has been described as a committed leader, a pillar in agricultural development, and a passionate advocate for farmers’ welfare.

Those who worked with him have described that they will miss his wisdom, integrity, and tireless service, which will be remembered and greatly missed.
