The MOJA Expressway Company, which operates the Nairobi Expressway, has clarified that a press statement circulating online regarding the temporary closure of roads leading to the Central Business District (CBD) is not accurate.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the company confirmed that the statement did not originate from its official communication channels and that no such closure has occurred.

It added that the Nairobi Expressway is operating normally and urged Kenyans to verify information from the company’s official page.

"We have seen the post circulating on social media. We wish to clarify that the circular is fake, and we have not issued any official statement on the matter. We urge the public to rely on our official communication platforms for accurate information regarding the expressway," the company stated.

The fake statement, dated Thursday, August 21, 2025, claimed that sections of the expressway were temporarily closed due to an unplanned procession by supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua is expected to arrive in Nairobi on August 21, 2025, from the US, where he has spent nearly two months garnering support for his political ambitions.

Some supporters have already gathered at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) waiting for his arrival.

On August 14, the former DP announced that he was cutting short his trip to the USA to return to Kenya. He added that he would reschedule the trip for early 2026. Gachagua had left for the two-month trip on July 9.

"I had a very successful and fulfilling visit to the United States of America with serious engagements with Kenyans in the Diaspora. I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party, DCP, in preparation for the upcoming by-elections in various parts of our country," he stated.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, on August 9, ordered that Gachagua record a statement upon his return to Kenya, following controversial remarks he made concerning alleged terrorism plots.

Murkomen accused Gachagua of tarnishing Kenya’s image during his visit to the US, claiming he treated serious security concerns as a joke.

“I want to say, without fear of contradiction, because he has said that he has information and he knows, and that he has an agent who is holding meetings with Al-Shabaab, as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.

Gachagua downplayed Murkomen's demand for him to record a statement after landing, challenging the CS to arrest him.
