The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the voting procedure for the upcoming by-elections on November 27.
In a public service announcement, the IEBC relayed that polling stations would be open for voting between 6 am and 5 pm on voting day.
Kenyans registered to vote in the 24 jurisdictions must bring the national identification card or official Kenyan passport with which they registered to vote. They will hand this document over to the returning officers at the polling centres.
Their fingerprints will then be entered into the KIEMS kit to verify their registration before they are handed a ballot paper on which to make their selections.
They will then be required to cast their votes in private and deposit the ballot paper into the ballot box. After voting, one will have their finger marked to ensure they do not vote twice.
Baringo County will be the only county to hold a county-wide vote, as they will be electing a new senator following the death of William Cheptumo on February 16, 2025.
Gideon Moi, a former senator for the county, initially declared his intention to stand for re-election before withdrawing in favour of the United Democratic Alliance's (UDA) candidate, Kiprono Cherubet, who is backed by President William Ruto.
Kasipul, Malava and Banissa constituencies will elect new MPs following the deaths of Ong'ondo Were (shot), Malulu Injendi (illness) and Kullow Maalim Hassan (road accident).
Ugunja and Mbeere North will elect new MPs to replace Opiyo Wandayi and Geoffrey Ruku, who were appointed Energy and Public Service Cabinet Secretaries respectively. The 2022 Magarini constituency election was nullified by the Supreme Court, necessitating a by-election.
17 other jurisdictions will have elections for ward representatives, including Kabuchai Chwele in Bungoma, Chewani in Tana River, Fafi in Garissa, Mumbuni North in Machakos, and Lake Zone and Nanaam in Turkana.
Samburu will have elections in Angata Nanyokie. Tembelio residents in Uasin Gishu County, Metkei residents in Elgeyo Marakwet, Chemudu Kapng'etuny in Nandi, and Narok Town residents in Narok County will also be voting for a new MCA.
Other wards who will be voting are Purko in Kajiado, Kisa East in Kakamega, Kariobangi North in Nairobi City and Nyamaiya, Nyansiongo, and Ekerenyo wards in Nyamira County.
