The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Oburu Odinga, has taken a short sabbatical break from Kenyan politics.

His sister Ruth Odinga announced on Saturday morning, confirming that Oburu had jetted out of the country to recharge after weeks of heated politics.

According to Ruth, the Siaya Senator had travelled to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for a three-day trip to rest following a hectic political schedule that saw him preside over the party's 20th Anniversary.

"ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to Dubai for a three-day visit to rest following a hectic political period," Ruth announced.

An X account associated with the ODM party leader also announced that the latter had taken a short political break to recollect, recharge, and reset.

The post, which was subsequently reposted by Oburu's son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, read, "Feeling grateful for good health and high spirits. Taking a short sabbatical to recollect, recharge, and reset."

His trip to Dubai comes amidst a tense moment for the ODM party, which has in recent weeks experinced internal wrangles among leaders over the party's political position.

However, his trip abroad has sparked speculations among Kenyans, with some questioning his sudden trip abroad just a fortnight after he took over as the party leader.

His appointment as the ODM leader has since faced resistance from some party politicians, with questions over his capability to guide the party.

While most Kenyan politicians are fond of travelling abroad to rest and engage in formal activities, Dubai has in recent months been a common destination for leaders.

Oburu's trip to Dubai is his first ever out of the country since his late brother Raila Odinga's untimely death on October 15, this year.

Raila passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest while taking a morning walk in India. Attempts to rush him to the Devamatha Hospital proved futile as he succumbed.
