The Senate Majority Whip and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has disclosed that he left Ruto's camp when Matiangi convinced him that upon taking over as President he would apply 'brutal government efficiency'.
Khalwale revealed this during a rally in Ekerenyo in Nyamira County on November 23, 2025, when he joined the former Interior Cabinet Secretary alongside other opposition leaders in the campaign rally for the united opposition candidate in the Nyasiongo Ward by-election.
The Senator who won the Kakamega Senatorial seat under the UDA ticket revealed that he held a four-hour meeting with Fred Matiangi when the former Interior CS announced his presidential bid.
"Matiangi, you turned me when you told me that upon being elected President you shall apply 'brutal government efficiency,'" he explained.
During the meeting, the Senator criticized President Ruto's plan of making Kenya a first world country, claiming that the dream shall not come to pass because Ruto's government is full of corrupt leaders.
Khalwale has been campaigning for the united opposition candidates in the ongoing by-elections campaigns across the country, abandoning candidates in his UDA Party.
He has been vocal in campaigning for DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako in the Malava by-elections as he decampaigns the UDA candidate David Ndakwa.
The Senator was criticized by Kenya Kwanza leaders who accused him of being disloyal to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Earlier in October, the UDA party wrote to Boni Khalwale seeking a show-cause letter on why it should not take disciplinary action against him for supporting an opposition candidate in the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-elections.
