The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in selected constituencies across Kenya, ahead of the 2027 General Elections, with the process set to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The resumption affects areas where CVR had previously been suspended to facilitate the November 27, 2025, by-elections.
The constituencies included range from Magarini, Galole, and Fafi in the coastal region to Machakos Town, Turkana North and West, Samburu North, Moiben, and Keiyo.
Additional constituencies are Ugunja, Chesumei, Tiaty, Baringo North, Baringo Central, Baringo South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Narok North, Kajiado Central, Khwisero, Kabuchai, Kasipul, West Mugirango, North Mugirango, Borabu, and Embakasi North.
The IEBC stated that the move is aimed at enabling eligible Kenyans who missed prior registration drives to enroll and update their voter details in time for the 2027 polls, with citizens in the affected areas advised to ensure their particulars are accurate and up to date.
Continuous Voter Registration is a key part of Kenya’s electoral process, allowing for a rolling registration of citizens who attain voting age, relocate, or wish to update personal information on the voters’ roll.
The November 27, 2025, by-elections led to the temporary suspension of CVR in affected areas to maintain electoral integrity and prevent manipulation of voter data during the polling period.
Eligible Kenyans can register or update their information at constituency registration centers using national identity cards, with the exercise set to run from Monday to Friday every week from 8am to 5pm.
IEBC has also urged the public to check their registration status online or at local offices to avoid last-minute complications ahead of the 2027 elections.
The commission stressed that participation in CVR is critical to ensuring every eligible citizen exercises their right to vote and that delays in registration could affect access to polling stations during the general elections.
Meanwhile, the commission announced that Continuous Voter Registration and regular revision of the voters’ roll will be suspended in Mbeere North and Malava Constituencies due to ongoing election petitions.
In Mbeere North, following a High Court petition challenging the election of MP Leo Wamuthende, Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed Justice Richard Mwongo to preside over the case at Embu High Court.
This follows a closely contested by-election held on November 27 last year, in which the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) competed against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
President William Ruto’s UDA party is facing a legal challenge after two voters filed a petition last year, disputing the victory of UDA candidate Leo Wa Muthende in the Mbeere North by-election.
