President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA principal Raila Odinga Condemn London Attacks

The tragedy in London after a terrorist attack on bystanders on Sunday united President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga days after the President was condemned for snubbing the principal at the Madaraka Day Celebrations.

In statements to the press, the two leaders condemned the attack and affirmed their support for Britain and the fight against terrorism.

President Uhuru stated that Kenya's support for Prime Minister Theresa May and the brave and resilient people of the United Kingdom was unwavering during this trying times and welcomed enhanced collaboration with the U.K. and all other countries targeted by terrorists and extremists.

“The President believes that an atmosphere of extremism fostered by individuals and groups that exploit religion and open, democratic societies is adding to the global terrorist threat,

“He has therefore called for a concerted standby states, civil society and all citizens against extremism, to de-legitimize fanatical ideologies, and stem radicalization,

“President Kenyatta believes that such measures are crucial to complementing strong counter-terrorism efforts by states to deliver lasting security and protect social cohesion.

On his part, Odinga- who is NASA principal and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader stated that the attack was a confirmation that terrorists were adopting new ways and strategies of attacks.

“They are targeting ordinary people in very ordinary places like sidewalks and restaurants as opposed to imposing landmarks and government or business premises,

“Unfortunately, these developments happen at a time world leaders seem to be pulling in opposite directions on critical matters of the day,

“The attacks should rally the community of nations to pull together and jointly rethink strategies for keeping our nation's safe while also addressing the seeds of terrorism,” said Odinga.

According to officials, a white van reportedly crashed into a sidewalk before knife-wielding men got out and attacked revelers at a nearby bar.

The three attackers were shot dead by the police.
