President Uhuru Kenyatta Urges Protesters to Seek Permission From Police

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent out a message to a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters who have been demonstrating in protest to the presidential results.

Speaking after his first day in office since re-election, Kenyatta asked the protesters to express their dissatisfaction within the law and avoid destruction of property.

He urged them to make the appropriate arrangements with the authorities whenever they want to take to the streets to ensure they picket in an orderly way.

The President affirmed that anyone was free to demonstrate but peacefully, warning that the government would not allow the loss of life, destruction of property and looting.

He further applauded police officers for the good work they had done during this electioneering period but urged them to restrain themselves from the use of force.

The Head of State added that he was grateful Kenyans had put the concluded election behind them and returned to work.

President Kenyatta also congratulated the Kenyan Athletics team that was representing the country in the IAAF world championships in London where Kenya emerged second globally with five gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

“I also take this opportunity to congratulate our Team Kenya in London. They have made us proud,” he stated.

Kenyatta was addressing the media outside his Harambee House office moments after meeting the Assumption of Office team.
