Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General (SG) Wilson Sossion has revealed why he rejected nomination to the National Assembly by ODM.
Speaking on Friday at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, Sossion stated that as an official of three Unions, his schedule was busy therefore he could not handle the MP job.
He stated that as SG of KNUT, Trade Union Congress of Kenya as well as President of Education International Africa, he would not effectively represent the interest of the workers in the House.
Sossion noted that there were various emerging issues in the unions which needed his attention, therefore, he wanted to concentrate on steering the organisations.
The former KNUT Chairman stated that he consulted the unions he chairs and the ODM leaders before deciding to opt out and leave the position for another individual.
He further denied reports that he was asked to reject the nomination for Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto who lost his seat to Governor Joyce Laboso.
“ODM is a democratic party with strict policies, I was duly nominated as a life member of the party by TUC. Those spreading the rumours that I was pressured to step down are not even members of the party. Everyone knows that I am not one to be tossed around,” he stated.
Sossion, on Monday, asked the Orange Party led by Raila Odinga to remove his name from Party's parliamentary nominees' list.
Speaking in Kabarnet, Sossion, in a surprising turn of events, stated that he had declined the nomination so that he could focus on commitments to KNUT.
