Former Kajiado West MP Moses ole Sakuda to Vie for National Assembly Speaker

Outgoing Kajiado West Member of Parliament (MP) Moses ole Sakuda has declared interest in vying for the National Assembly Speaker position.

Sakuda, who lost in the concluded election to former Keekonyokie MCA George Sunkuyia, stated that he would challenge incumbent Justin Muturi for the post.

The former MP, in a statement sent on Friday, divulged that he had already began the process of tendering his application with the election set to be held after Parliament resumes session on Thursday.

He added that he was collecting forms from the Clerk of the Assembly after which he would formally make the application on Monday.

Sakuda who served in the 10th and 11th House in the Jubilee Party urged the MPs-elect to support his bid.

“I urge all MPs-elect across all the political divide to vote for me as I endeavour to steer the wheel of Parliament, legislative-wise, to greater heights. I have consulted widely with my former colleagues in the National Assembly and across the political divide. They are in full support of my ambition to be the Speaker,“ he stated.

He maintained that he had the best chance of leading the next House due to his 10-year experience and as a member of various House Committees.

At the same time, Laikipia MP-elect Naisula Lesuda who was elected on a KANU ticket has submitted her application to be the next Deputy Speaker.

On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked Parliament to reconvene on August 31 when the newly elected members will be sworn in.

After the ceremony, the lawmakers are then expected to elect the Speaker and the Deputy.
