IEBC to Hold 3 Elections After October Presidential Poll

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct three other elections after the October 17 repeat presidential poll.

On November 7, Kitutu Chache South constituents will go to the ballot to elect their Member of Parliament (MP) after the election was cancelled in August.

The IEBC postponed the election for the constituency, following the death of Jubilee candidate Leonard Mwamba two weeks to Election Day.

Two other elections will be conducted in Masalani Ward, Garissa County, and Bogichora Ward in Nyamira County on the same day.

The election for Bogichora Ward was cancelled after the Jubilee MCA candidate, 72-year-old John Onsomu Okebiro, died at Ram Hospital in Kisii after a long-term illness.

In a Gazette notice published on Monday, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati instructed the involved political parties to furnish the commission with details of their new candidates by September 5.

The Jubilee party on Wednesday announced that they had given a direct nomination to Mr Antoney Kibagendi to vie for the Kitutu Chahche South MP seat.

Mr Kibagendi defected from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in May, after losing out on the party nomination.

He thereafter campaigned for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election as the Kisii County Jubilee Youth Campaign Co-coordinator.

He will now face off with the incumbent Richard Onyonka (Ford Kenya), Andrew Maubi (Wiper), Samuel Omwando (ODM), Justus Mochoge (ANC), Jimmy Onkangi (PDP) and Morara Nyarang’o (KANU).

The official campaign period will run from September 7 to November 5.
