President Uhuru Kenyatta Calls Jubilee MPs to State House Ahead of Address to 12th Parliament

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Tuesday morning meet with all Jubilee Party-elected and nominated Members of Parliament (MPs) at State House.

The President, along with his deputy William Ruto, is expected to address the parliamentarians before proceeding for the official opening of the National Assembly at the Parliament building on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting will involve one final emphasis for the MPs to promote the Jubilee agenda at the August House.

According to the Constitution, Article 132, the President is required to address the Assembly before official business can begin.

President Kenyatta's address has been treated with contempt by the Opposition who assert it is illegal as his win in the August 8 election was overturned by the Supreme Court.

Bungoma Senator and National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal, Moses Wetangula, has announced that the Opposition lawmakers will not attend the Tuesday session.

"The President does not have the power to convene or schedule the opening of the newly-elected Parliament.

"That duty awaits the President who will assume office after being sworn in by the Chief Justice upon taking and subscribing to the oath of allegiance and the oath for the execution of the functions of office as provided by the Constitution. NASA members will, therefore, not attend the purported opening of Parliament on Tuesday as directed by the Speakers of both Houses," Mr Wetangula declared on Monday.

President Kenyatta has, however, dismissed the move by the Opposition saying that the Jubilee members of the House are well able to conduct business without the NASA legislators.
