Chiloba Locked Out of New IEBC Team

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has been left out of the institution's new team that will oversee the repeat presidential election on October 26.

Addressing the press at Safari Park Hotel on Friday, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati unveiled the seven-member projects team adding that the new group would not include officers accused of bungling the August 8 presidential election.

Two other electoral officials have also been pushed aside along with Mr Chiloba are Nancy Kariuki and Silas Rotich.

In the new shake-up, Marjan Hussein Marjan has been retained as the Projects team leader while David Towett will head operations.

The legal and compliance department will still be led by Salome Oyugi while Sydney Namilung will be in charge of the tallying centres.

Moreover, the Communication and outreach docket will be spearheaded by Tabitha Mutemi.

The IEBC Chairman also announced that Albert Gogo will be the election technology lead while Agatha Wahome will handle finance and procurement.

Chebukati unveiled the new team while launching a training workshop for all 290 returning officers who will take part in the repeat poll on October 26.

He stated the changes were part of his promise that he would carry out reforms to ensure a smooth running of the upcoming election.

On Friday, supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) commenced their demonstrations against the IEBC blocking roads in several parts of the country.

The anti-IEBC demos were mainly geared to have Mr Chiloba resign before the upcoming election
