NASA Protester Shot, Several Injured in Nairobi Demos

A NASA demonstrator has been shot after he allegedly tried to steal from the police around Kenyatta Avenue during the anti-IEBC demonstrations.

Witnesses claim the man was trying to snatch a phone from a motorist who happened to be a police officer.

Reports indicate that the oficer believed to be from the from the Flying Squad unit shot the man who tried snatching a phone from one of them.

During the same incident, three people were also injured after a car reportedly registered under the Government of Kenya ran over the protesters.

The demonstrators ran over by the SUV have sustained injuries and two have broken legs.

Reports indicate that police have opened fire to the protestors around GPO area.

Siaya Senator James Orengo has warned Parliament against passing electoral laws ahead of the presidential election.

He has asked the protesters to march towards Uhuru Park and back to Anniversary Towers continues pressuring for changes at the electoral body.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, on her part, insisted that NASA will not participate in the election unless the irreducible minimums are met.

There is a heavy police presence at Uhuru Park as NASA protesters head towards Anniversary Towers accompanied by Senator Orengo, Ms Wanga and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

13:07 : Updated the story with an announcement that NASA was headed to Uhuru Park to protest and force out IEBC, the shot protester was shot by a flying squad,  2 demonstrators had broken legs, Orengo calling for peaceful demos.

12:38 :  Updated with a Police report claiming that the shot man was trying to snatch a phone from a motorist who happened to be a police officer, 3 people have been run over by vehicle and Orengo warning parliament from passing electoral laws tomorrow.
