State House Official Speaks on Giving Bodyguards to Raila During Demos

A State House official has clarified that police will not be deployed to protect the National Super Alliance (NASA) principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka during the anti-IEBC demonstrations.

Statehouse's Lead Communication Strategist Dennis Itumbi on Monday disclosed through his social media that the Opposition leaders would have to take responsibility for their safety during the protests.

"I confirm they have personal armed police security and police attached to their homes. However, police cannot be deployed to participate in demos," he wrote.

He called out the NASA principals for lying to Kenyans that their security had been withdrawn.

"Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka have security attached to them - they are merely spreading an outright lie," he added.

On Sunday, the Wiper leader revealed that Jubilee had withdrawn his and Odinga's security paving the way for physical harm to befall the opposition leaders, a move which he claimed was to stop the repeat elections.

Mr Kalonzo stated that Jubilee was plotting to stall the repeat poll while banking on the Constitutional clause that says elections must be stopped if any of the presidential candidates or running mates dies.

"Withdrawing the security of presidential candidates both mobile and from their residences in the middle of charged election campaigns proves that the ruling Jubilee regime is on a mischievous agenda.

"Why expose the NASA candidates if you mean well for the leaders affected and the country?" he posed.

He added that two more police officers attached to accompany him during campaigns were Saturday morning ordered back to their stations.
