National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters on Wednesday defied Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's order and managed to gain access to Uhuru Park for a mega rally.
This is after Sonko's administration announced that the NASA leaders had not formally informed the county of their planned rally and as such, the Park could not be made available for their use.
The Governor had also written to Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome asking for police officers to be deployed to keep guard and ensure that neither the NASA leaders nor their supporters access the area.

"It has come to my attention that NASA leaders plan to use Uhuru Park Grounds today for a political meeting. However, records at City Hall show that they have not followed the procedures to secure the said grounds for their meeting.
"It is, therefore, my humble request that you secure Uhuru Park Grounds unless you receive written authority and approval by the County Government of Nairobi over the same," read Governor Sonko's letter to the police.
The supporters are currently at the Park awaiting the arrival of Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is set to make a major announcement and give directions on how to go about the October 26 election day.

"The coalition will make the announcement at a public rally at Uhuru Park at 2 pm. NASA invites supporters to turn up in large numbers for the crucial announcement," Mr Odinga's spokesman Dennis Onyango conveyed on Tuesday.

Siaya Senator James Orengo on Wednesday morning maintained that preparations were underway at Uhuru Park and that the rally would proceed as planned.
"Far as we know, there will be no election tomorrow (Thursday) and that's all we are saying.
"Preparations are underway at Uhuru Park for the rally and thereafter we will have demonstrations as is our constitutional right," Mr Orengo declared at the Supreme Court grounds.
The NASA leader spoke just moments after Chief Justice David Maraga adjourned a case seeking to cancel the repeat Presidential election.
