NASA MP Reveals What Raila Did on Election Day

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga spent election day - October 26 - at his Karen home in Nairobi even as he called for his supporters to boycott the repeat election.

In a photo shared by Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed, the Opposition leader was seen seated with the day's newspapers around him.

Junet captioned the photo: "Now that there was no election in Kenya today, I spent my day with my leader Raila Amolo Odinga at his Karen Home."

Mr Odinga later released a statement reiterating comments made during Wednesday's rally at Uhuru Park.

"NASA yesterday launched a national campaign of unprecedented scope that will mobilize Kenyans to restore the cardinal values of democracy and the rule of law.

"As was recognized in our 2010 Constitution, that goal can be reached only through the powerful and protective institutions that have been attacked and undermined throughout Jubilee’s rule," Raila's statement read in part.

The Opposition leader went on to announce that the new resistance movement would seek to have a fresh poll that would be conducted in adherence to the Supreme Court ruling.

"In our new campaign of peaceful resistance to unlawfully constituted authority, we will convene a People’s Assembly to guide the country to a fresh, free and fair presidential election, as decreed by the Supreme Court.

" Our resistance to unlawfully constituted authority will also include the powerful economic weapon of boycotting goods and services produced by those who have supported Uhuru’s lawless grab of the Presidency," the statement read.

He further explained that the movement would peacefully hold prayer vigils and avoid confrontations.
