Peter Munya Withdraws Petition Against Gov Kiraitu Murungi

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya has filed an application to withdraw his petition challenging Governor Kiraitu Murungi's win in the August 8 General Election.

The two leaders were present at a Meru Court on Monday as they promised to work together for the good of the county.

Munya ran on a Party of National Unity (PNU) ticket against Kiraitu who vied on a Jubilee Party ticket.

After Mr Murungi was declared the winner, Munya filed a petition, claiming that the process had been seriously flawed.

Although Munya had supported President Uhuru Kenyatta in the run-up to the August 8 poll, he briefly defected to the National Super Alliance (NASA) after his loss.

At the time, Munya stated: “I confirm that today I have joined the NASA family. My election was stolen and I cannot join those who stole my election.”

Days later, he decamped to Jubilee after meeting President Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.

He stated that he had decided to work together with Governor Murungi to keep the county united.

President Kenyatta tweeted: “The former Meru Governor pledged that he and PNU would give me their support in the repeat election after consultations with party loyalists.”

Governor Murungi promised to lobby for a state job for Mr Munya.
