A judge has accused a section of politicians of attempting to influence the outcome of the ongoing election petitions.
Busia Chief Magistrate George Wakahiu revealed that some ward representatives and politicians who lost elections had been sending him emissaries to rule in favour of certain cases.
Mr Wakahiu further asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the matter.
The magistrate vowed that the judiciary would not be influenced by any politician to alter its rulings.

“It has come to the attention of this court that some parties in some of the petitions I am handling have been sending emissaries to try and seek favours from this court,” stated Wakahiu.
“This court takes this opportunity to warn such parties and their emissaries of such actions and demand from them to desist from such behaviour,” judge Wakahiu warned.
He further maintained that the court would not bow to pressure mounted by politicians and their supporters to give favorable rulings.
“Do not even think about it, the court will determine all cases before it based on merit and without fear or favour,” he stated.
“The court takes the matter seriously and investigative agencies should move with speed and investigate the claims and bring the suspects to book," Judge Wakahiu added.

Judge Wakahiu’s allegations come barely a month after High Court judge Esther Maina warned parties in the Siaya gubernatorial election petition against attempts to bribe her for a favourable ruling.
