ODM MPs Reveal Plan to Boycott Paying Tax

A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Members of Parliament (MPs) has threatened to ask its supporters to stop remitting taxes.

According to the MPs, this would be NASA's strategy to deal with the government's plan to cut its funding to counties that approved the People's assembly bill.

Speaking during a fundraising ceremony in Rangwe constituency, the MPs led by Homabay woman representative Gladys Wanga noted that they would mobilize their supporters to stop remitting taxes if the government fails to fund these counties.

“There are plans by the Jubilee administration to sideline counties which are NASA dominated in resources allocation because they passed the Bill. But we will not allow this to happen,” MP Wanga stated.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi argued that Jubilee administration's plan to remit funds would affect residents of such counties as they would suffer from lack of essential services from the county governments.

"All Kenyans pay taxes equally hence it would amount to mistreatment if residents of any county fail to receive government services because their county is denied funds,” he stated.

Mr Atandi reiterated that the NASA brigade would harness its supporters to boycott paying taxes should the National government fail to release funds to county governments in NASA stronghold.

“The money sent to counties belongs to the tax payers. Failure to remit the funds to any county government will make us mobilize our supporters to stop paying taxes to the government.

Rangwe constituency MP Lillian Gogo cautioned the Jubilee administration against excluding Kenyans from enjoying county resources.

“It’s unfortunate for some leaders to purport they want to unite Kenyans yet they plan to deny them their right to equal distribution of national resources,” she conveyed.

Awendo MP Walter Owino on his part challenged the Jubilee administration to clear its reputation on the matter.
