CS Keter Explains How Sachangwan Black Spot Will Be Fixed

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter on Wednesday explained how the Sachangwan black spot along Nakuru Eldoret highway would be fixed.

While visiting the crash site where more than 30 people died on Tuesday, Mr Keter announced that the stretch between the Mau Summit junction and Ngata will be converted into a dual carriageway.

"This road will be redesigned in January to separate trucks from the small cars to save more lives," he stated.

The Energy CS also acknowledged a suggestion from residents to have trailers redirected onto an old road parallel to the highway at that section.

Mr Keter indicated that plans to improve the highway were underway, as officers had set up light masts between Kamara and Ngata.

"Following the accident that killed seven musicians days ago, I talked to the President who directed me to start lighting the stretch," he conveyed.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was also at the scene of accident and asked road users to be more cautious during this festive season.

Between Monday and Tuesday, more than 70 people died and several others sustained injuries in three separate accidents.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to step up their efforts to ensure motorists obey traffic safety rules and regulations during the festive season.
