The Report NTSA Ignored Before Salgaa Crash That Killed 36

New details have emerged that the NTSA ignored a warning about one of the buses from Matunda bus Corporation, whose vehicle claimed 36 lives in a crash near Salgaa on Nakuru-Nairobi highway on Sunday.

A motorist identified as Samuel Maina, who frequently uses the route claims that he reported the matter on September 2016 after witnessing carelessness from one of the buses' drivers.

"I am a regular road user, and I have a camera on my dashboard. I was heading to Naivasha at around 8 am in September when the bus overtook me on the wrong side of the road at around Soko Mjinga area before Kinungi.

“The driver made several blunders and nearly caused an accident. He was driving carelessly and nearly hit an oncoming Toyota Vitz. He repeated the same mistake at Kinungi,” Maina stated in an interview with The Standard.

He explained that he reported the incident to Traffic Police at Naivasha roadblock and upon receiving no response, he opted to report to NTSA through his twitter handle.

Mr Maina also stated that he posted the video on Twitter, but the agency responded by asking for his full name and promised to get back to him.

“Thanks for contacting NTSA. Kindly send your full name, email address, and phone number. We’ll get back to you shortly,” NTSA responded.

The accident that happened on Sunday claimed the lives of 36 people and left many others injured after a bus rammed into a truck as the driver was allegedly overtaking.

The deadly crash saw the NTSA  ban night travel for public transport vehicles which has derailed transport movement for many people in most parts of the country.
