Why Orengo Regrets Participating in Election Petition

Siaya Senator James Orengo on Thursday announced his regrets for participating in the Kisumu County Gubernatorial election petition.

According to the Senator, the case was a waste of time since it did not offer him the challenge he expected.

The Senior Counsel noted that he had handled big cases in the past and expected a challenging case from ex-governor Jack Ranguma but did not get any.

“I did not know that Ranguma’s case against Nyong’o was child play. I wasted my time on the case,” Orengo was quoted by the Nairobian.

He was the lead counsel for Governor Anyang' Nyong'o in a petition filed by Ranguma challenging his election as the new Kisumu county boss during the August General Election.

Meanwhile, Kisumu High Court Judge David Majanja on Wednesday ordered the former County Boss to pay Professor Nyong'o and other parties involved in the petition Sh5 Million.

Judge Majanja made the directive after dismissing the petition challenging Professor Nyong'o victory in last year's poll.

In his ruling, the judge stated that the former governor failed to provide enough evidence to substantiate claims of ballot stuffing.

He described the allegations as vague, embarrassing and founded on malice and propaganda stating that there was no proof of interference with the electoral process.

“The allegations made by the petitioner are vague and embarrassing. Such vagueness is not cured by stating in the petition that the grounds, information, and evidence are detailed in the supporting affidavits,” Justice Majanja noted.
