The Move That Will Kill Kalonzo's Political Career - Wiper MP

Mwingi Central Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Mulyungi has announced that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's political career will end if he continues staying out of power.

Speaking to the Standard, the newly elected legislator noted that if Kalonzo accepts to deputise any other person in future, he will have committed political suicide.

“What we are saying as Wiper and the Kamba community is that we will never again allow Kalonzo to be number two to anybody. It does not matter whether he has the backing of Raila, Musalia Mudavadi or anybody else, he will be on the presidential ballot come 2022,” he stated.

Addressing what will happen if the coalition does not endorse the Wiper Leader's 2022 Presidential ambition, Mr Mulyungi noted that his boss will take a shot at the seat alone.

“Kalonzo has twice supported Raila for the presidential contest and we have got into trouble. It is only wise for him to be number one (presidential candidate) in 2022 because if we make another mistake, he will grow old and lose taste among Kenyans. We cannot afford that,” Mulyungi was quoted.

Mr Mulyungi' remarks come just a week after a section of Wiper leaders endorsed Mr Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid demanding that the party be treated equally within the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Led by deputy party leader Farah Maalim, the leaders affirmed that Kalonzo should be given preference during the 2022 General Election.

Maalim stated that their party leader had made enough sacrifice since the 2007 election, therefore, should be the flagbearer in the upcoming polls.

"He sacrificed in 2007, in 2013 and in 2017. This time we are hoping, we are demanding, we are expecting everybody else to sacrifice for Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka,” Maalim stated.

Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana who is also the new Wiper Party Chairman noted that the country should know that Musyoka’s candidature is “not a joke”.

“NASA sat and there was a Memorandum of Understanding that in 2022, Raila Odinga will not vie. Both of you had an agreement that was taken to the US by Prof Makau Mutua that he will support you,” he stated.
