Uhuru Addresses Alleged Split With Ruto

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday addressed allegations of a split between him and Deputy President William Ruto over cabinet appointments.

Speaking at a funeral service for three African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) bishops in Meru on Tuesday, President Kenyatta stated that the stories of a split were fabricated by people trying to divide them.

"Like William (Ruto) has said the politics that we want is that of development. We are working well but people are trying to create stories but this will not distract us.

"We want the Church leaders to work together regardless of distractions like I'm working with William," Uhuru stated.

DP Ruto reiterated his recent message that the President be allowed to constitute his cabinet as he wishes, dismissing rumours of a split.

“We spent the entire 2017 on electioneering that benefited politicians.

"We will have short-changed Kenyans if we continue talking about issues that will benefit politicians. This is the time to discuss what will change the lives of 40 million Kenyans. We will be con artists if we keep on discussing positions,” Ruto stated at the same forum.

He affirmed that as “as the principal assistant of the President,” he would give him space to pick a team that would deliver on their promises.

Media reports had alleged that DP Ruto was unhappy with the newly-constituted cabinet, with his absence during President Kenyatta's partial announcement of the line-up seen as an indicator of this.

The President nominated 3 new CSs and retained six, leaving the fate of 13 who served in his previous cabinet hanging in the balance.
