NASA Senators Storm Out of Meeting During Transport Committee Election

National Super Alliance (NASA) Senators on Tuesday dramatically walked out of Senate committee session with Jubilee after a disagreement ensued between the two sides.

The Senators claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta's party was interfering with the independence of the Roads and Transport Committee.

The two factions had met to hold elections to decide on the leadership of the committee.

Addressing journalists at Parliament Buildings, the team, led by Kilifi Senator Steward Madzayo and his Kakamega counterpart Cleophas Malala, claimed that their Jubilee counterparts ganged up on Wednesday to lock them out of committee leadership roles.

The Opposition members walked out of the Transport committee's session, claiming State House had influenced their rejection.

They expressed disappointment over the conducted elections and linked President Kenyatta and DP William Ruto to their troubles.

"NASA members are a disappointed lot. Parliamentary committees are not independent, they are controlled from State House," they stated.

Nine committees have held elections for chairs and vice chairs. No members of the National Super Alliance has been elected to the two top positions.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi was appointed the Transport committee head and will be deputized by Marsabit's Godana Hargura.
