Machakos Gov Alfred Mutua's Plan to Beat DP William Ruto for President in 2022

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Friday announced the beginning of presidential campaigns ahead of his 2022 bid.

Speaking to journalists, the Governor conveyed that elected and nominated leaders form his Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party would kick off the campaigns soon after a strategy meeting to be held on Saturday.

Governor Mutua outlined that the party leaders would be instrumental in popularising his bid across the country before the 2022 General election where Deputy President William Ruto is set to vie for the presidency.

"We shall take stock of the last elections and set strategies for 2022 to win the presidency.

"We will also draw a work plan to roll out party activities and plans to traverse the country to popularise my presidential bid," Governor Mutua told Capital News.

The MCC party managed to garner just over 50 elective posts during the concluded August 2017 elections where he managed to be re-elected to the Governor post.

MCC candidates won the Mwala, Baringo Central, Lamu East MP seats and the Tana River Woman Representative seat.

The party also boasts of about 50 elected members of county assembly countrywide.

Dr Mutua conveyed that the Saturday meeting would take place at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.

Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti has been the Governor's fiercest rival following the 2017 contest for the Machakos governorship.

A lawyer representing Ms Ndeti in a petition challenging Dr Mutua's win has claimed that his life is in danger after presenting critical evidence against the Governor.
