NASA Governors, MPs Summoned to Sign Affidavit

At least 50 NASA Members of Parliament (MPs) have signed an affidavit in support of Opposition leader Raila Odinga's swearing-in as the people's President.

This followed a campaign by four legislators who launched it earlier in the week to weed out 'moles' and colleagues who are not committed to the swearing-in plan.

The four MPs calling themselves Tangaza Msimamo Team, led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, stated that they were targeting over 100 lawmakers to make a commitment to support Raila's swearing-in slated for January 30.

The other three are Makueni constituency MP Dan Maanzo, ODM director of Political Affairs and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, and Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi promised to ensure the swearing-in does not fail.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Maanzo affirmed that they had summoned all elected and nominated leaders under NASA to sign the affidavit as proof of recognising Odinga as the people's President.

“We have summoned all NASA MPs and Governors to sign the affidavit because we want them to express their stand, we are tired of hearing allegations that some of our members do not support the swearing-in,” Maanzo stated.

“No one is being forced to sign it, it is not illegal we just want to know who is with us as NASA and who isn’t with us. The members are expressing their freedom and as at yesterday we had 46 members who signed the affidavit,” Maanzo added.

Mr Malala stated that governors and the coalition's principal will sign the affidavit after MPs and senators were done, to ensure everyone's commitment to the plan was absolute.

"MPs and senators should acknowledge they understand the Constitution and fully support people’s assemblies. They are also expected recognise Raila and Kalonzo as the president and deputy of the People’s Republic.

"I recognise Raila and Kalonzo as president and deputy president of the People’s Republic having been duly elected by the people of Kenya in an exercise of their sovereign power granted under the Constitution of Kenya (2010),” the affidavit reads in part.
