Wetangula Not Interested In 'People's Presidency' - Ford Kenya MP Reveals

MP Eseli Simiyu who is a close ally of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula revealed that the NASA Co-principal was not interested in the 'People's Presidency'.

The lawmaker also revealed that Wetang’ula skipped Raila Odinga’s 'swearing-in' as he was strategising about his own bid at the presidency in 2022.

He maintained that Wetangula skipping Raila's oath ceremony was a clever strategy to get ahead in 2022.

Simiyu, the Ford Kenya secretary general stated: “If you are storing seeds, you don’t do so in one place. If one spoils, you should remain with another for the planting season. The January 30 [swearing-in] was a spoilt seed”.

He further argued that since the Bungoma Senator was not taking the oath his presence was not required adding that the ceremony was for Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka who was also a no-show.

Speaking at a function in Tongaren Simiyu assured their supporters that: "We will ensure we bring the required reforms in this country so we stop this issue of restricting the presidency to two ethnic groups”.

At a joint press conference on Thursday, Moses Wetang’ula, Kalonzo, Raila and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi dismissed claims of rifts among them.

Kalonzo attributed his no-show at Uhuru Park for the opposition’s planned 'inauguration' to the withdrawal of his security detail.

“I was left alone. About 11 am, and that is the time journalists came to my home. I left. We had spoken on phone with Hon Raila, Wetang’ula and Mudavadi to plan our journey to Uhuru Park," Kalonzo stated.

"We did not get there. We found ourselves, Wetang’ula, Mudavadi and I because we did not have bodyguards, unable to leave the room. That is what happened,” he added.
