Millions Uhuru Kenyatta Spent on Swearing-in

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were sworn-in for their second term in November 2017 and it has now emerged that they spent Sh46 Million on lunch for their guests.

According to an official report submitted to Parliament by the presiding committee this week, a total of Sh352.1 Million was spent during the event.

It was stated that security, protocol and logistics cost around Sh146.3 Million and this figure mainly catered for the allowances of security personnel and the transportation of VIPs.

In the committee's breakdown, Foreign Affairs cost Sh98.9 Million and media and communications for the event cost Sh45.9 Million.

An extra Sh15 Million was also spent on entertainment.

Prior to the event, Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, stated that the budget was Sh384 Million which would also cater for the Jamhuri Day celebrations.

It was also reported that over 180,000 people attended the event and most of them could not fit.

Kenyatta was sworn-in using the same Bible used by Kenya's first PresidentMzee Jomo Kenyatta, amidst cheers from the crowd.

Among the heads of state who attended the ceremony were Ethiopia's Hailemariam Desalegn, Rwanda's Paul Kagame, Somalia's Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, South Sudan's Salva Kiir, Botswana's Ian Khama and Uganda's Yoweri Museveni.

Ever since the swearing-in, President Kenyatta has made several changes to his 'inner-circle' and recently appointed Justice Paul Kariuki to replace Prof Githu Muigai who resigned as Attorney General this week.
