I was Set up - Alfred Keter Protests Over His Arrest

Nandi Hills Member of Parliament (MP), Alfred Keter, has revealed that his arrest for allegedly forging Treasury bills was a setup.

According to details by The Star, the outspoken MP claimed that he was set up by the two co-directors of Desai Industries- Madat Chatur and Arthur Sakwa whom he was arrested with.

“I just came to assist you then you put me in your mess. Then why is the media here? This is a set up,” he told the two who remained silent during the arrest at Central Bank of Kenya  (CBK) offices.

His arrest was marked by drama as he attempted to hide his face from cameras even as he loudly denied the allegations.

He complained that he had gone to assist Chatur and Sakwa before he got held up by the detectives.

The three were arrested by Banking Fraud Investigation Unit detectives and driven away to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.

It is reported that they had gone to meet the CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge alongside their lawyer in the process of redeeming the bills they claimed to have bought two decades ago.

Nonetheless, according to investigations by CBK, the treasury bills were a forgery and they had to invite detectives to Njoroge's office where they were apprehended.

“They presented a set of forged Treasury bills which were purportedly issued by the CBK a number of years ago.

"The bills are worth Sh633 million, and this matter is what has led to these arrests because these were forged Treasury bills,” CBK director of communications Wallace Kantai  noted .
