Aden Duale's Text Message That has Sparked Protests Against President Uhuru Kenyatta

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has allegedly sparked protests among Jubilee party Members of Parliament (MPs) against President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

The Majority Leader is said to have sent a text message to the legislators on the eve of Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) nominations with strict instructions that they attend the session and bring with them their electronic voting cards.

Jubilee party MPs who spoke to Nation suggested that other than easing the process of voting, the cards would help assess how the MPs voted in the case where elections would be necessary.

According to the insiders, the Executive wanted Nominated Senator Beth Mugo and Eldas MP Adan Keynan back in the PSC.

Majority of the MPs, however, did not want the two reappointed. Ms Mugo having served since 2013 and Keynan since 2008.

The move has since upset Jubilee MPs who have accused State House of high handedness and meddling in Parliament affairs.

The legislators were further angered after the ruling party sidelined Homa Bay Woman representative Gladys Wanga to nominate Wiper party's Ben Momanyi.

"What justification was there to reject Wanga and leave Keynan, who has personalised the commission?" one of the MPs who spoke questioned.

The outcome of the nomination has therefore been seen to be an indictment on the Presidential team who are said to be stamping their authority.

Commenting on the matter, Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter expressed his disgust at how the party had opted to deal with divergent views within its ranks.

"Jubilee should re-examine its engagement with the Communist Party of China so that we don’t fall into the trap of dismembering our democratic space.

"From the recent developments, it is clear that communist tendencies are being introduced in our system at an alarming rate," he stated.
