Boni Khalwale Reveals Why he Rejected DP William Ruto's Offer to Join Jubilee

Former Kakamega Senator on Wednesday revealed that prior to the fresh October 26 election, Deputy President William Ruto approached him to join Jubilee - a move geared to scuttle the western votes block.

Speaking during the JKL show on Citizen TV, the NASA-allied politician revealed that he had been presented with an opportunity to work with the ruling party.

He disclosed: "Soon after the August 8 elections, I had a discussion with DP Ruto where he asked me if we could work together in the run-up to the October election."

The former Senator added that the DP's motive was to split NASA's votes among the Luhya community, which he failed to do even after convincing other Western region leaders to support them.

"The ones who did including Ababu Namwamba, Paul Otuoma, Moses Akaranga, Kenneth Marende delivered nothing because they were trying to serve their own interests. They had their eye on a possible future appointment," Khalwale explained.

Namwamba was appointed as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Foreign Affairs and International Trade a position which President Uhuru Kenyatta created when he named his new Cabinet.

"I gave it deep thought, I saw Luhya leaders going to State House and I thought it was the wrong thing to do.

"I would not have taken four years to convince our people to join NASA only to change my mind and tell them to move to Jubilee with only four weeks to the election. I would have been seen as a con man if I'd worked with Jubilee at that time," Khalwale opined.

When asked whether he would take up a job to work with Jubilee, he conveyed: "A presidential appointment is made by the president; once you take it up you do not serve the president rather the Republic of Kenya. We will cross the bridge when we get there."

Khalwale divulged that Odinga's swearing in on January 30 was a mock ceremony with no legal standing.

"There was no swearing in! There was no judge present in accordance with the law; you would have seen the various protocols that accompany that kind of function," he stated.
