James Orengo's Drastic Move to Ensure Miguna Miguna is Released from JKIA

Siaya Senator James Orengo and Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo on Tuesday evening stuck court orders demanding the release of Miguna Miguna at the Immigration Department's offices at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Mr Orengo stated that they pinned the court orders at "conspicuous places," claiming that there were no officials present at the offices to receive them.

The two legislators, who are also in Miguna's legal team, added that they hope Miguna will be released by the government on Wednesday.

Justice Roselyn Aburili on Tuesday directed the government to release the outspoken lawyer, who has been detained at the airport since on Monday.

The judge further ordered that Miguna should appear in court on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

The order was issued after Miguna's lawyers: John Khaminwa, Nelson Havi, and Julie Soweto sued the government over what they termed as an 'illegal detention' of their client.

In their submissions before the judge, the lawyers also pleaded with the court to block Miguna's deportation.

They also complained about mistreatment of Dr Miguna by security officers, alleging that he had not been allowed to communicate with anyone.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) criticized the government over the handling of the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general.

In a statement, the agency noted: "The LSK stands for adherence to the rule of law and lawful and fair treatment of citizens. We are also concerned about the manner in which Dr Miguna Miguna was treated by the security officers."
