Miguna Miguna Advises Activist on Hunger Strike in Solidarity With Him

Self-styled National Resistance Movement  (NRM) General Miguna Miguna has acknowledged Kisumu-based human rights activist Boniface Akumu who recently went on hunger strike demanding that the Government comply with court orders issued to facilitate Miguna's return to Kenya.

Taking to social media on Monday from Canada, Miguna heaped praise on Akumu for showing "total commitment to the struggle", but advised him not to die as there was a bigger battle to be fought.

"The #NRMKe comrades thank Mr. Boniface Akumu for showing total commitment to the struggle. However, I urge him and others not to die. Instead, we must ORGANISE, MOBILISE and REMOVE the despots from their illegitimate positions of power," he tweeted.

Akumu went on hunger strike after Miguna was deported by the government for the second time in 2 months, this time being forced onto an Emirates flight to Dubai.

“I do not care even if I die of hunger. I have been very unhappy with the way the state has been abusing the rule of law,” he stated.

As of Monday evening, he had gone 3 days without food.

Akumu further explained that he hoped his campaign would also lead to more peaceful protests in Kisumu which has been associated with chaotic demonstrations in the past.

He asserted that he would continue with the strike until the government showed respect for the rule of law and brought Miguna Miguna back to the country.

Miguna left Dubai for Canada on Monday where he underwent toxicology and other various chemichal tests at an Ontario hospital.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Monday, one of his lawyers Nelson Havi told Kenyans.co.ke that if the tests confirmed Miguna's allegations that he had been sedated and poisoned by state agents, they would sue the government for attempted murder.
