Treasury Allocates Ksh305 Million for Refurbishment of State Houses

The Treasury has allocated Ksh305 Million for the refurbishment of State Houses and lodges in the country for the financial year commencing July 2018.

This figure will cater for maintenance works at the buildings in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru, as well as State lodges in Sagana, Kisumu and Kakamega.

The Nairobi State House takes the biggest percentage with Ksh98.5 Million, Nakuru (Ksh64.4 Million) while the buildings at Mombasa (Ksh29.6 Million).

In the allocation, Sagana State lodge will have Ksh42 Million for rehabilitation works, Kisumu Ksh36 Million while the Kakamega one will receive Ksh34.4 Million.

The costs of running Kakamega State Lodge has raised questions as it is rarely used by presidents.

President Uhuru Kenyatta last visited the lodge in 2014 while his predecessors Mwai Kibaki and Mzee Moi rarely used it.

During the 2017 campaigns, Uhuru used the State lodges to meet up with regional leaders in a bid to boost his support base.

In September, he led Jubilee leaders at the Sagana one in Nyeri into making what they termed as the Sagana Declaration where they demanded that the IEBC deliver the fresh elections within 60 days as stipulated in the constitution.

During the same period, prior to the fresh elections, he hosted, Jubilee leaders from Kisii and Nyamira at Nakuru State lodge in a bid to gain support from the Western block.

Earlier in May, it was revealed that taxpayers will have to part with Ksh 46.5 million to refurbish Deputy President William Ruto's second home at the coast.
